With the winter season comes auditions for the spring musical – which, this year, will be a performance of the classic comedy Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
The musical tells the tale of a woman named Milly, who, after a short courtship, marries an outdoorsman who lives in the woods. Much to her surprise, her husband’s six brothers also live in the cabin. She tries her best to teach them how to be proper, how to court a woman – but despite her efforts, the brothers kidnap six women, determined to make them their brides. Chaos, of course, ensues.
Choir teacher Courtney Gibson is particularly excited for this performance.
“This is my favorite show of all time,” Gibson said.
According to Gibson, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will be quite the show – with plenty of hijinks, musical numbers and apparently, fight scenes.
“We got a fight choreographer for this one too, so, there’s lots of fighting in this one.”
But Gibson isn’t the only one excited for the show. Despite having only just gotten their roles, the cast is looking forward to bringing the story to life.
Wyatt Horton, a junior, is happy to return to the stage in this new role as Nathan, one of the suitors. He also seems to be looking forward to the show’s fight scenes.
“The brothers get to fight the suitors, and vice versa, so that’s gonna be fun,” Horton said.
Junior Charlotte Kulma will be playing one of the brides, a woman named Alice.
“Words can’t describe how giddy I am,” Kulma said. While she doesn’t know much about her character as of now, she’s looking forward to playing the part. “I’m actually gonna get to sing.”
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will be performed in the SCHS auditorium March 13-15.
