For the first time at SCHS the seniors left school a week early before the official last day of school. The change created an excitement amongst the seniors, while leaving many underclassmen and teachers surprised by how different the building feels without them.
It was something new that our school tried for the first time. Most teachers aren’t used to the seniors leaving a week early. It was a bit of a change for them, and navigating that along with their normal classes, it became a bit of a challenge.
¨It was a little bit harder because I had other students who were seniors in class so it was like double planning,” FACS teacher Grace Tovar said.
The majority of seniors took their finals a week earlier than everyone else, then had a week of senior activities. On Monday they had CPR training and registered to vote, Tuesday they had senior checkout, and wrote some thank you letters. Wednesday was field day with senior sunrise and breakfast. Thursday was their senior field trip and Friday was rehearsal for graduation. According to Dr. Ted Happel, “It worked out pretty well.”
The seniors graduating early has now become a part of SCHS tradition.
