With the school year coming to a close, this year’s freshmen experienced a whirlwind of a year. From starting at a brand new school, to joining new clubs and sports, as well as meeting new people, freshman year was one to remember.
Academics wise, the switch from middle school courses to high school courses can be quite difficult in the sense of work loads and responsibilities. Remembering to keep up with late work, balancing sports, school, and social life, is something the incoming freshmen have learned throughout the year.
“The classes were way different from what they were in middle school, which kind of threw me off a little bit,” freshman Asia Wright said.
Not only were academics a new area of learning, but so was discovering new friendships. To help ease the transition, many upperclassmen found themselves helping the lower classmen when it came to understanding high school matters. This created a sense of comradery unifying the school together.
“I was surprised that a lot of upper classmen helped me when I needed it,” freshman Piper Riddle said.
While many new things were learned throughout the school year that may have been challenging, many still enjoyed the year. Old friendships from middle school, new goals, and one year of high school under their belts helped them to better get a grip of what high school was all about.
“I loved that all of my friends were with me, and I got to have more freedom,” freshman Amelia Shell said.
In all, freshman year brought in another Pirate class to represent St. Charles High. With the good and the bad, class of 2029 is ready to take on another year of high school.
