This school year there has been a large push for students to take charge of their education and enroll in online courses through the Launch program, particularly during the summer season. Launch is the program SCHS students use to take classes online in the school year and summer as well as credit recovery courses.
Counselors and administration are pushing students to acknowledge that taking classes over the summer is a great way to catch up on failed/required classes, take classes that aren’t offered in school, or ensure that students have room for other things on their schedule.
Freshman Eliana Bryson plans to take PE and Drivers Education over the summer.
“‘I’m just doing it really to get them out of the way so I don’t have to use up school time,” Bryson said.
Sophomore Marcella Shiels is taking Spanish 1 and Personal Finance over the summer and has taken classes on Launch before. Launch Personal Finance also has an option for dual credit through the community college, like many courses in Launch, to earn college credit
“I took Launch last year too, the workload was a lot [last year] so it made it easier to manage [sophomore year classes],” Shiels said.
Students taking Launch classes during the school year, in certain cases, can go home and practicipate as an online student during their online course blocks. However they can also join Mr. Jack Moss to work in the building.

“Sitting in a room for hours a day in dead silence and just staring at your computer, that’s gonna drive a person crazy,” Moss said. “So creating an environment where both your work and also you as a social person can both thrive in the same setting as well as it ot become too distracting.”
Students who are interested in Launch courses may find the application in the counseling office. They may also find information in the weekly newsletter, in the announcements, or in their graduating class google classroom.
“If they have any questions about classes or what would be best for them, I’d say talk to their counselor, ” Counselor Sarah Scaturro said.
