Students arriving late to school may notice an unfamiliar face sitting behind the desk when walking into the attendance office. Well, that shining new face is SCHS’s new attendance secretary Danielle Uskiwich. Even though this is Uskiwich’s first year working on the SCHS staff, her roots as an attendance secretary run back further.
“I worked at McCluer High School in Ferguson-Florissant before going to Hardin,” said Uskiwich Though she enjoyed her time at Hardin, she ultimately decided to move up to the high school level.
“I made the switch from Hardin to SCHS because I really love working with high schoolers and being able to be a mentor to them as they become young adults,” said Uskiwich
However the arrival of Uskiwich wasn’t instant, and during the absence of an attendance secretary, the other front office workers had to take her spot.
“It was a relief to get someone into the attendance position and a sense of normalcy for the students,” said Assistant Principal’s Secretary Amy Stendal.
However a new face coming in so quickly was only possible due to her already being an active secretary in the district.
“Luckily we already had a few internal candidates, people that already worked for the district, so we were able to kinda move it along faster,” said Principal Ted Happel.
And on top of all that, a new face may not be the only thing students see change about the attendance office as Uskiwich already has plans on redecorating.
“I do want to redecorate to make my office a little more fun and home-y. My little desk area is decorated, I just need some time to get decorations everywhere else,” said Uskiwich.
And she has already found herself at home aboard the SCHS ship.
“I love working here! The move from Hardin to here was an extremely easy move since it was within the district and I already knew how to do most things here. I feel like I fit in well,” said Uskiwich.
