Some students in St. Charles High may remember the Jolly Roger show which was run by business teacher Andrew Lawrence previously. The show is returning under the name “The Cove” and is now run by another business teacher, Carl Smith in room A105. Students could be a part of this show by joining the Broadcast Media class in which they will learn how to record and edit videos.
“I like being a part of The Cove because I get to record and edit videos, which is what I want to do when I’m out of high school,” senior Connor Murray said.
Broadcast Media offers a plethora of skills that could be used for video recording or editing.
“Each student in the class got to pick a job that they were interested in, whether that [was] video editing, the camera operating, hosting or anchoring, [and] even reporting,” Smith said.
These skills can be applied in real life through ways such as storytelling, camera operation, coming up with ideas for segments, and even being an anchor and reporting news. This class even offers students the freedom to report on what they want and give their own say to it.
, Isaac Black said his favorite part is “being able to express what I want to say and the way I want to say it,” which allows students to express their feelings on certain topics that they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.
