Science teacher Jim Scott and Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) members took a visit to Null on Oct. 29 to teach elementary students about the heart.

“HOSA is a club that’s designed for students who are interested in the healthcare field after graduation,” Scott said.

Scott presented a heart dissection to the fourth graders while HOSA volunteers took the opportunity to help the students with different activities.

“We also let them view different samples under a microscope such as red blood cells and tissue cells,” junior Malia Jones said.

The experience for both HOSA volunteers and fourth graders was rewarding.

“All of the kids seemed really interested and genuinely wanted to do the stuff we brought for them to do and see,” junior Maria Linhoff said.

This presentation transpired when Null Elementary School’s principal, Dr. Kate Kimsey contacted Scott.

“They had been learning about CPR and heart anatomy and asked if we could present to them about it,” Scott said.
