The search for new teachers never ends. With more people coming into the building everyday, one of them is none other than the new special education paraprofessional, Emma Barnes. Barnes is not only brand new to the school, but the school district in itself.
While Barnes is new to the school, she is not new to education. Barnes first studied for American Sign Language Interpreting. During this time, she found a love for education, and learned from Kelly Education how to become a paraprofessional. This love for education pushed her to find a welcoming community, such as St. Charles High.
“It’s just funny seeing all the kids and their different personalities so far,” Barnes said.
Barnes has always had a love for aiding others. At one point in time, she was a part of the swim team and babysitting. Both of these activities helped guide Barnes into the direction of understanding one’s needs and accommodating them.
“I’ve always been a helper,” Barnes said. “I’ve just always wanted to help people.”
With this in mind, one goal she hopes to achieve is seeing people grow over time. Whether it’s overcoming a fear, studying for a good grade, or even a positive mentality, she is ready to help people achieve their goals, and by that she achieves her own.
“Just seeing personal growth is always big for me, seeing somebody start from somewhere and them ending up improving,” Barnes said.
