The St. Charles High’s golf team has kicked off the season on a positive note, with their team showing great efforts. Although their first couple matches got rained out, they have been very adaptable and willing to learn new things according to Coach Michael Zacheis.

“The kids have been really great and have been really coachable,” Zacheis said. “You can always control your effort, and as long as you are doing that and working hard, that’s the most important key.”

Golf can be difficult for new players because they have no umpire or referee to tell them what to do, they kind of have to learn the rules as they play.

“As far as compared to last year, we do have about half the team new this year that hasn’t played before,” Zacheis said.

This year junior Hudson Bomerschein decided to join the golf team for the first time. He said he hasn’t been doing as well as he hoped, but granted he has only played in one match this year. Bomerschein said he thinks the team has been doing well, with of course some small rough patches.

“My personal goal is to improve my consistency and my mindset while playing,” Bomerschein said.

This is not the case for senior Aaron Tinker. Tinker has been with the SCHS golf program all four years of his time in high school. He said this has definitely been his best year by far.

“I have done a lot better than prior years, it’s been a lot of fun, and I got to meet a lot of cool people,” Tinker said.

Zacheis also agrees that Tinker has been improving little by little each year he has been playing. He is proud of his team and the work they have put in during practices, and is excited to see where this year’s roster takes them.
