At the end of February, jazz band took a trip to Chicago to compete against other schools in the area in the Rolling Meadows competition. There, they explored many different places throughout Chicago, and performed to the best of their abilities.
Jazz band first went on Chicago’s Navy Pier, a pier on the shoreline of Lake Michigan.
“We had lunch on the pier, and just relaxed for a while,” said junior Charlie Cepeda, “there were a lot of things on the pier, like the massive ferris wheel, and that was cool to see.”
They then went to a restaurant called “Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament,” a restaurant with aesthetics of the middle ages, complete with a jousting competition and dancing.
“Then we went to this place called medieval times, it was like dinner, it was like jousting, and they were dancing,” sophomore Marcella Sheils said.
Finally, jazz band went to Rolling Meadows High School to compete against St. Charles West, and Hardin Middle School. St. Charles High had a general jazz band performance, as well as an ensemble performance.
“The jazz ensemble also performed, and we also got graded on that, and had commentary from judges to help us improve,” said Bomerschein.
In the end, the SCHS Jazz Band would win second place, following after St. Charles West.
