St. Charles High and St. Charles West’s United Winter Guard recently won a competition against Fox High School in a Valentine’s Day competition. Winter guard, which focuses more on the performance aspect of color guard, competes against other schools in their division, hoping to present the best performance.
Senior Isabella Lathan is the captain of the united winter guard. Through group chats and themed spirit days, Lathan helps to bring a sense of unity to a team split between schools.
Competitions are arranged between nearby schools in the same division. However, there’s only one school nearby in the same division: Fox High. “It’s really just a battle against them every single time,” said Lathan.
Senior Noodle Lami has been doing guard since middle school, and has seen improvements in the team this year. “We literally jumped six or seven points from our last competition,” said Lami.
