In the last few weeks a new club has emerged at SCHS. The Hispanic Heritage club was created by Rosaisela Cordero-Sanchez to promote diversity within the school.
“I just thought we didn’t have enough representation in the school for Hispanic culture and I thought that BSU was doing a good job at representing the black community. I just thought we needed a change,” Cordero-Sanchez said.
Luis Alcantara, co-founder of the club, was very excited when Rosaisela brought the idea up to him.
“When Rosie brought that up to me I was immediately on board with it,” Alcantara added.
Cordero-Sanchez and Alcantara are both very happy with the club and how the first meeting went, and so is their sponsor Señora Lopez-Reese.
“I think it went very well, it was a lot of fun, we played games and introduced each other. We talked about what the club was going to entail. It was a lot of fun, I enjoyed it,” Señora Lopez-Reese added.
Cordero-Sanchez invested a lot of time to make this new club.
“First I contacted Señora Reese to see if she would like to sponsor it and she like the idea so she said yes, and she asked me to write a proposal which I did and Mr. Owens approved it, after that I got Luis to help me with the planning of the first meeting,” Cordero-Sanchez said.
Luis is very happy with the club so far and is excited for the future of it.
“I think It went really good, we had a good amount of people show up and I hope we have more in the future,” Alcantara said.
