The final season of “Stranger Things” has closed a chapter of many people’s lives after having grown up with the show. The show hits so many different topics and ties everything back one last time to say goodbye. There are so many aspects that came into play with this season, and I think that is what made it special for so many people.
First of all, I thought that the acting in this season was amazing. The actors all played their characters so well to the point you would forget that this was a show in the first place at times. They made everything feel so realistic and connected with the audience very well. One of my favorite parts of this new season was the connection between Will and Robin. It felt very real and authentic and not just like they were just grouping the LGBTQ characters of the series together.
The soundtrack for this season was also amazing. They had some songs that were just fun and upbeat, like “Upside Down” by Diana Ross and “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany. They also had really powerful songs like” Purple Rain” by Prince and “Heroes” by David Bowie. I especially loved the use of Purple Rain because it felt like it was perfectly made for the Mike and El’s scene. I don’t think they could have picked a better song for that part of the show.
There were both good and bad sides to the storyline the Duffer brothers setup for this final season. There were so many different storylines merging all together and I think all of it tied in really well. I also think that scenes like Dustin’s graduation speech and the development of Robin and Will’s friendship were really amazing and heartfelt. Despite these good features, there were definitely some plot holes. What happened to Vicky? What happened to Suzie? Why aren’t there any demogorgons in the Abyss? I think it is safe to say that despite the extensive length of the season, many of us still have a lot of questions.
One part of the storyline that many people, including me, were wishing for was for Will and Mike to finally get together and make “Byler” come true. While I knew that it was unrealistic, Will’s realization of his feelings towards the beginning of this season gave me hope that this could actually end up happening. It felt as if there were small hints being dropped between these two throughout the season, only for the Duffer brothers to really stab me and many other fans in the heart with Mike’s line, “Friends? No thanks. Best Friends.”
Despite the areas where this season lacked, I still think it was overall a pretty decent way to end the show. I know myself and many other people grew up with this show and it was nice to see everything come back together in the end. It brought me back to all the different points of my life I was in during the various seasons. “Stranger Things” has been something that was around for a large portion of my childhood and I think it has given me a better appreciation and understanding for what happened in this final season.
