On Jan. 28, 2025, La Pizza opened a new location on Main Street. Originally they opened their restaurant in University City in 2003. They expanded to a new location so they could have a larger kitchen to work in. But they don’t just sell pizza, they also have stromboli, calzones, sandwiches, salads, and garlic bread.
When walking in, the atmosphere is warm with people happily eating pizza and a welcome from the staff offering us menus at the register. The menu has a wide variety of toppings. You can order just a slice for $4.75, or a meal for $9.75 that includes a soda, pizza, and salad. For every topping you add, it’s an extra 75 cents. I tasted a pepperoni bacon pizza, a pepperoni pineapple jalapeno pizza, a sausage mushroom pizza, and their garden salad.
Immediately after ordering they came out with the salads. Customers could order the salad with a side of dressing, you have seven to pick from. With ranch, the salad was crisp and fresh. It was a decent serving size as well. Soon after, the pizza arrived. The pizza was covered well in toppings; they did not skimp out. It was also massive! The crust was the best part. It was crisp and soft at the same time, it was delicious with no overbearing taste of yeast. Although due to its New York style, it was difficult to eat. Because the pizza was so large you couldn’t pick it up well, and it wasn’t easy to eat with a fork either because the silverware was plastic and very flimsy.
For the pepperoni bacon pizza, the pepperonis were causing the pizza to be dripping with grease. The grease from the pepperoni was noticeably tasted, and almost took away from the rest of the pizza. Without the grease, there was a good ratio of sauce, cheese, and toppings.
The sausage mushroom pizza was odd. The sausage wasn’t like what customers would be used to. It was sliced into long pieces, some going from the crust to the tip of the pizza. The taste was good, it had an Italian seasoned taste to it. The mushrooms did not taste fresh on the pizza. The quantity of the toppings was adequate I would say. There was enough cheese and sauce to balance out the amount of toppings.
Pepperoni, pineapple, and jalapeno pizza is controversial to some people, but theirs tasted delicious. The spicy jalapenos didn’t overpower the sweetness of the pineapple, and vice versa. With the immaculate crust, alongside the cheese, sauce, pineapple, jalapeno, and pepperoni, this pizza tasted flavorful.
To me, La Pizza is not a place that stands out. No, their food wasn’t gross, or terrible, in fact aside from the greasy pepperonis, their pizza was appetizing. But, this isn’t a place that I would choose to go back to. This won’t be a new craving of mine, it wasn’t better than any other pizza place I have been to. I would give La Pizza a solid 6.7/10.
