A big change has hit the girls track team in the form of a brand new head coach. Jack Moss, our school’s own ISS teacher, has stepped up and taken over Christine Hilburn’s old position as head coach of the girls track team. After spending his own high school years on our track team, he’s now ready to take on the challenge of coaching one instead.
“I did track in high school so now it just feels like the right fit to continue on coaching,” said Moss.
Ben Owens, the activities director for our school, believes that Moss is a great fit for the team due to his experience with both being on a track team and knowing how to manage one. Other than having plenty of knowledge on track, he also knows how to put in data for the team in order to keep them up to date on their meets. He also works really well with Paul Wright, the boys track team coach, which is very important since they work closely together.
“Track involves a lot of computer stuff to make sure your team is up to date with meets and everything else and I know he’s going to do a very good job,” said Owens.
Looking down onto the track itself, Kierra Skillington has her own opinions on her new coach. Despite not knowing much about him yet, since the season has not yet begun, she has no doubt that he will do a great job with the team and guide them all to victory.
“There may be a few challenges at first, as there are always a few challenges in every sport that gains a new coach, but there is no doubt in my mind that we can overcome all of them,” said Skillington.
Moving lanes, fellow runner Charlotte Kulma has similar feelings to this situation, saying that she is excited to see how this new season will go.
“I think a new coach is a welcome change,” said Kulma.
