Popular horror movie franchise Scream makes a return to theaters, with the story taking place 25 years after the last murders.
Belle
Release Date: Jan. 14
Belle, which was released in Japan back in 2021, now makes its debut in America. The movie was produced by Japanese animation studio Studio Chizu, who are well known for making the movies Wolf Children and Mirai along with some other works.
Marry Me
Release Date: Feb. 11
A new romance-comedy coming in 2022, featuring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson as the main leads. Lopez plays as a musical star whose plans to marry another celebrity fall through. Her character picks a random man (who is played by Wilson) to marry instead. The movie will be about whether the pair can actually make the relationship work, or if it will fall apart.
Uncharted
Release Date: Feb. 18
Based off of the popular video game series Uncharted, the movie is an action adventure movie with leads Tom Holland and Mark Whalberg searching for treasure.
The Batman
Release Date: March 4
A new Batman reboot will be released in theaters. Now the role of Batman will be played by Robert Pattinson, who is well known for his role in the movie series Twilight as Edward. The movie will be about the earlier events in Batman’s career and his first run-in with the villain, the Riddler.
Morbius
Release Date: Apr. 1
Morbius is the next in line of the Spider-Man villain films after both Venom movies. Jared Leto will be playing the main character Dr. Michael Morbius, also known as “the living vampire,” as his character tries to find a cure for a rare blood disease that he has.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Release Date: Apr. 8
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie makes it’s return bringing along some new characters from the hit game series. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are searching for the Master Emerald, which controls the power of the chaos emeralds.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
Release Date: Apr. 15
The third movie in the Fantastic Beasts series, the movie still centers around preventing the plans of Gellert Grindelwald. However, Johnny Depp has been replaced by Mads Mikkelsen to play Grindelwald. The movie will be about Albus Dumbledore sending Newt Scamander and his friends on a secret mission to stop him.
Free! -The Final Stroke- Part 2
Release Date: Apr. 22 for Japan, to be announced for America
Part 2 to the movie Free! The Final Stroke Part 1 will officially be released in Japan this year, however it is still unknown when both parts 1 and 2 will be released in America. This movie is the final part to the anime series Free! The films and show were made by the popular Japanese animation studio Kyoto Animation who are already known for their many other works such as A Silent Voice, Clannad and Violet Evergarden.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Madness

The director of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies (Sam Raimi) will be directing this new Doctor Strange movie. The movie will not only see appearances of characters from the first movie, but will also see Wanda Maximoff and the introduction of characters just joining the Marvel cinematic universe. There will also of course be references to other Marvel movies and shows, most notably Loki and WandaVision.
Legally Blonde 3

Nearly twenty years after the release of Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2, the next installment of the series will finally be released in theaters.
Top Gun: Maverick
Release Date: May 27
Due to the pandemic, the original planned release of this movie was delayed until 2022. Now Top Gun fans finally can experience the universe again since 1986.
John Wick Chapter 4
Release Date: May 27
The fourth installment of the John Wick series will finally be in theaters this year. The movie will start right where John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum leaves off.
Jurassic World: Domination
Release Date: June 10
This movie will be the follow up to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which ended with the dinosaurs being free to roam the earth. The film will take place four years in the future, where humans have to learn to live with the invasive species.
Lightyear
Release Date: June 17
Though Toy Story has officially ended in 2019, that does not mean there will not be anymore content from the series. Lightyear will be about the fictional space ranger Buzz Lightyear and his backstory.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Release Date: July 8
Chris Hemsworth finally makes a return to the Marvel cinematic universe with Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman. Not only is it unknown who will eventually wield Mjollnir, but there will also be a possible cameo from the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Black Atom
Release Date: July 29
Dwayne Johnson plays the main role of Black Atom in this new Shazam! spin-off. The story will be about his connections and struggles with the Justice Society of America.
Don’t Worry Darling
Release Date: Sept. 23
Directed by Book Smart’s Olivia Wilde, this film is about a 1950s housewife living in utopian society who begins to suspect her husband is hiding something. The main roles are played by Florence Pugh and Harry Styles.
Mission: Impossible 7
Release Date: Sept. 30
Another action filled Mission: Impossible movie starring Ethan Hunt. Mission: Impossible 8 is also currently being filmed.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Part One
Release Date: Oct. 7
The Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse universe will finally be returning with a part one of it’s next installment. It is still unknown when part two will come out.
Halloween Ends
Release Date: Oct. 14
Halloween Ends will be the supposed last installment of the Halloween series by finally ending the power of Micheal Myers once and for all.
Hocus Pocus 2
Release Date: October, to be announced
Almost three decades after the last Hocus Pocus movie, the sisters will finally be making their return. This movie will not only be in theaters, but will also make its debut on Disney+.
The Flash
Release Date: Nov. 4
With Erza Miller starring as the Flash, he travels back in time to prevent a murder. This change, however, will cause many big ripple effects.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Release Date: Nov. 11
With the loss of Chadwick Boseman, the role of T’Challa will not be recast. Though the story itself is still unknown, Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett will all be making a return in the film.
Avatar 2

After 13 years, Avatar will receive a sequel. The movie will continue off with Jake Sully and Neytiri’s life on Pandora. Then, when an old threat returns, they are forced to explore the other lands of Pandora.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Not that long after the release of The Flash, Aquaman will make a return on the big screen. As of now the plot details of the movie are vague. However, James Wan made a return for the direction and Jason Momoa kept his main role as Aquaman.
Super Mario Bros. (2022)
Release Date: Dec. 21
Directed by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination’s Chris Meledandri, another video game inspired media will be released to theaters. Chris Pratt will be voicing the iconic video game character Mario and Charlie Day will be voicing as his brother Luigi. Some other cast members include Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Jack Black as Bowser and Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong.
Five Nights at Freddy’s

Announced as far back as 2015, the Five Nights at Freddy’s video game series will finally have a movie release. Three years after the initial announcement, the official script received the green light by the game’s creator Scott Cawthon. Cawthon commented on a Reddit post that he received 10 script proposals, which were all rejected except for the tenth. “Leaks” from the movie have been floating around the internet, and it’s finally estimated that it will be released in 2022.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Though the movie was released in Japan in 2021, an official global release date has yet to be confirmed. However, it is expected to be released in the U.S. during the summer of 2022. The movie is based on volume 0 of the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen, whose animated series debuted during the fall of 2020 and ended it’s first season during 2021.
TV Shows
Peacemaker
Release Date: Jan. 13
A new spin-off series of the Suicide Squad movies with John Cena playing the main role. The show takes place after the events of Suicide Squad 2. It will be available to watch on HBO Max, and will be releasing new episodes every Thursday.
Halo
Release Date: Jan. 27
Announced by Steven Spielberg as far back as 2013, the show will finally be making its release on Paramount+. Pablo Schreiber will be playing the lead role, Master Chief.
Bel-Air
Release Date: Feb. 13
Will Smith will be producing this new adaptation of the popular 90’s show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Set in modern-day Los Angeles, this show aims to explore class divides, racial dynamics and other struggles that Will had to face from his move. The show will be released on Peacock.
The Dropout
Release Date: March 3
Recently, the scandals surrounding Elizabeth Holmes have been making rounds through the news and the internet. The Dropout is a documentary series about Holmes’ scandals. The series will be available on Hulu.
Spy x Family

Originally a manga series sharing the same name, Spy x Family is another series that gained popularity during the beginning of the pandemic. The story is about a spy who needs to create a fake family to execute a mission. Unknown to him though, his adoptive daughter is a mind reader and his wife is a spy as well. Spy x Family will be released on Crunchyroll.
Pachinko
Release Date: Spring, to be announced
Based on the book with the same title, this love story by Min Jin Lee will air on Apple TV+. The story spans from Korea, to Japan, and even to the U.S. The story will be told in Korean, Japanese and English.
Untitled The Lord of the Rings TV Series
Release Date: Sept. 2
Amazon will be releasing this prequel to The Lord of the Rings. Nearly half a billion dollars was spent creating this TV series, making it the most expensive series of all time. The show is set in Middle-Earth thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Uzumaki

Famous manga author and artist Junji Ito will finally receive an animated series about one of his most famous works, Uzumaki. Unlike his previous series about his other stories, Uzumaki will be only in black and white, be only about that specific volume and will stay more true to Ito’s art style. The show will air on Amazon Prime Video.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2022)

Netflix will be airing this live action adaptation of the widely adored, Avatar: The Last Airbender. Though the original writers of the series have walked away from its production, there is still anticipation for it’s release.
House of Dragon

House of Dragon will be the first of the spin-offs for the show Game of Thrones. The show takes place 200 years after the events of Game of Thrones and centers around the conflicts within the Targayen household. With the death of the king, his children fight over their claim of the throne causing conflict in the family. House of Dragon will be airing on HBO Max.
The Last of Us

Another video game inspired series, The Last of Us will be about the events of it’s in-game version. The video game is highly cinematic, so there are high expectations for a relatively smooth transition from the game to the show. The series is about a survivor named Joel ushering around a little girl named Ellie around the United States during a zombie apocalypse. The show will be airing on HBO.
Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel centers around a Pakistani-American teen obsessed with Captain Marvel. The teen, Kamala Khan, finds herself with the power to stretch into any shape. The show will help set up the events for the next Captain Marvel movie, The Marvels. The series will be airing on Disney+.
Moon Knight

Isaac Oscur plays the main character, Marc Spector (also known as Moon Knight). Spector is a CIA agent who is imbued with the powers of the Egyptian god, Khonshu. Ethan Hawke will be playing the unnamed villain. Moon Knight is darker than most other Marvel series, and is often compared to Batman. Like Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight will be released on Disney+.
She-Hulk

Mark Ruffulo will make a return to the Marvel cinematic universe to play as the cousin for the main character, Jennifer Walters. Tatiana Maslany will be playing as Walters, or She-Hulk, who’s a lawyer that specializes in cases that deal with superhumans. Tim Roth will be making an appearance as The Abomination. The show will be airing on Disney+.
Secret Invasion

After appearing in about eleven different Marvel works, Samuel L. Jackson will finally be appearing in his own project. He will of course be playing as Nick Fury as he hunts the Skrulls that have reached high points of power all over the Earth. Ben Mendelson will also be reappearing as the Skrull, Talos. Secret Invasion will be available to watch on Disney+.
Obi-Wan Kenobi

This long-awaited Star Wars project will take place between the Star Wars films Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. During this time period, Obi-Wan was in hiding watching over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine as the Jedi were being hunted. Director Deborah Chow, known for her direction for The Mandalorian, will be directing the show. Obi-Wan Kenobi will air on Disney+.
Andor

Andor is another upcoming Star Wars show coming to Disney+. The show will be a prequel to Rogue One, with the main character Cassian Andor (played again by Diego Luna). The show will be about his covert missions to set up the rebellion against the Empire.
Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest

After the ending of it’s main animated series back in 2019, the show will be making a comeback this year. This next spin-off series will take place a year after the series’ end. The show will be released on Funimation and possibly other streaming platforms.
Chainsaw Man

Based on the manga series sharing the same name, this series has high expectations by anime fans. The series gained an immense amount of popularity during the height of the pandemic. The show will also be directed and animated by MAPPA, an animation company that became popular for animating Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1 and Part 2. The series will most likely be coming to anime streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll, however there are rumors that it will be released on Netflix instead.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

After the release of the long awaited video game Cyberpunk: 2077, fans are also receiving an animated adaptation of the same universe. The show will be airing on Netflix and will be directed by Yoshiki Usa and Masahiko Otsuka. Both of these individuals have worked on the shows Star Wars: Visions, Little Witch Academia and SSSS.Dynazenon.

Rainbow Six Extraction

A spin-off game to the Rainbow Six Siege, Rainbow Six Extraction is another multiplayer shooter game coming out this year. The game will be about multiple players working together to defeat parasite-like aliens called the Archaeans. Unlike the original game, there will be no PvP mode for Extraction. The game will be available to play on both the Xbox One and Series X, PlayStation 4 and 5, Stadia, Amazon Luna and on PC through Ubisoft and Epic Games.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Release Date: Jan. 28
Not that long after the remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon Legends: Arceus will also be released for the Nintendo Switch. The game will also be set in the same regions as both remakes, and will have similar but very different gameplay from previous Pokémon games.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
Release Date: March 18
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is another action role-playing game made by Koei Tecmo Games and Team Ninja, and published by Square Enix (who is known for their other Final Fantasy titles). The story is an alternate universe of the original Final Fantasy on the Famicom. It will follow a different set of characters brought into a fantasy world to face the malevolent Chaos. On release the game will be available on PC (Windows), PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Developed by gaming company Gearbox Software and published by 2k Games, this story will be a spin-off to their popular game series Borderlands. The game will specifically be a successor to one of the pieces of downloadable content for Borderlands 2 (Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep). It will be a first person shooter and role-play game like other Borderlands games, however players are able to completely customize their own character. The game will be available for PC (Windows), PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One, X and Series S.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first game in the main series for Kirby to be a 3D action game. It was first announced by Nintendo in late September of 2021. The story will be about Kirby, lost in an unknown past world, trying to rescue Waddle Dees from a group of beast-like creatures called “Beast Corps.” Kirby and the Forgotten Land will be available on the Nintendo Switch.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The Skywalker Saga is the next installment of the LEGO Star Wars game series. The game was produced by Traveller’s Tales, who are known for their many LEGO, Disney and Sega game titles, and published by well known company Warner Bros. Entertainment. The game is expected to adapt all nine Skywalker saga films into this game. It will be available on PC (Windows), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and X/S.
Starfield
Release Date: Nov. 11
Described as “Skyrim in space” by it’s developers at Bethesda Game Studios, this action role-playing game was announced at E3 back in 2018. The game will be the first new intellectual property made by Bethesda in over twenty-five years. Starfield will be available on PC (Windows) and on Xbox X/S.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an action-adventure game developed by Daedalic Entertainment. The story will be about the universe of the famous fantasy series The Lord of the Rings, and will follow Gollum before the events of both that series and it’s counterpart, The Hobbit. The game will be available on PC (Windows), PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One and Series X/S.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns

This Firaxis Games and Marvel game collaboration will feature many different Marvel characters. Some of these characters include the Midnight Sons, the Avengers, the X-Men and the Runaways, all fictional teams in the universe. It will be a tactile role-playing game, with the player also being able to customize their own character named “The Hunter.” The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC (Windows) through Steam and Epic Games.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an upcoming game based on the world from the Avatar movie (which will receive a sequel this year). It will be an open-world action-adventure game, and will be developed by Massive Entertainment. The game will be available on PC (Windows) through Ubisoft, PlayStation 5, Amazon Luna and Stadia.
Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta 3 is the next game to come out for the Bayonetta series. As of right now not much is known about the game, however it will still have the same hack and slash type gameplay. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch.
God of War Ragnarök

The next and ninth installment for the God of War series, this upcoming action-adventure game is another game developed by Santa Monica Studio. The story will continue to follow Kratos and his son Atreus as the game covers the great mythological Norse event, Ragnarök. The game will be a sequel to 2018’s God of War, and will be the ending to the Norse era for the series. Ragnarök will be available for PlayStation 4 and 5.
Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights’ story takes place during the decline of Gotham City after Batman’s death. Though his old partners have since gone their separate ways, they have to band together to keep the peace in Gotham. In this action role-playing game, players can play as Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood, who each have their own abilities. The game will be available on PC (Windows), PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X/S.
Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is another video game based on the hit book series Harry Potter. In this game, players can create their own character, live their life as a Hogwarts student and are even able to pick their own Hogwarts House. It will be an open-world, action role-playing game, and will be available on PC (Windows), PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S.
Untitled The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel

This untitled The Legend of Zelda game will be the sequel to the wildly popular The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Commonly referred to as “Breath of the Wild 2,” this game, along with its name, have been under a sort of censorship to keep the secrecy and excitement for the game. The game is aimed to be released on the Nintendo Switch sometime this year.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

The next Mario turn-based strategy game, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was created by both Ubisoft and Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. The game will be a sequel to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.
Sonic Frontiers

After the release of Sonic Forces in 2017, Sega began production on Sonic Frontiers. Sonic Frontiers will be the first open-world Sonic game, as Sonic explores the Starfall Islands. The game will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, PC (Windows), and Xbox One and Series X/S.
Splatoon 3

Splatoon 3 is the next third-person shooter Splatoon game. The game will be like its predecessors, an online multiplayer competitive experience while also having a single player story experience. Splatoon 3 will be released for the Nintendo Switch.
Hollow Knight: Silksong

This game is the sequel to the hit indie game Hollow Knight. Unlike the original game, the player plays as Hornet instead of the Knight. The game will be playable on PC (Windows), macOS, Linux and Nintendo Switch.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the next game in the Batman: Arkham series. Unlike the series’ previous games, Batman will not be a main character or a playable character. The game’s story revolves around the Suicide Squad’s attempts to defeat Brainiac when he invades Earth and brainwashes the Justice League. The game will be available on PC (Windows), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Slime Rancher 2

The sequel to another hit indie game, Slime Rancher, this game is similar to its first game. It is an open-world game where the player collects new and different slimes on Rainbow Island. The game will be released for early access on Xbox Series X/S, and will be officially released on PC (Windows) through Microsoft Store, Steam and Epic Games.
