After an incredible season for the boys track team last year and being the GAC Champions and winning Districts, the boys are motivated to win it all again. Their Head Coach Paul Wright has high expectations for the team and even higher goals.
“We are fully committed to retaining the GAC Conference Championship and winning Districts,” said Head Coach Paul Wright. “We are also trying to qualify the largest boy’s team possible for the State Track & Field Championships.”
The runners have high expectations for themselves as well.
“Break 48  in the 400. Last year PR’ed 48.85 when I broke the school record and I want to break it again by running under 48,” said sprinting captain Jadon Salamone.

Also, the athletes are looking forward to going back to the State and doing better.
“The State meet, I got fifth last year and I am hoping to get first,” jumping captain Jordan Rowe said when asked about what he is most excited for this track season.

Wright’s coaching strategy is to help his athletes be better than the day before.
“Our training philosophy is to BE BETTER THAN WE WERE YESTERDAY…. All athletes on the team have the goal to beat and keep improving upon their personal bests in all of their events,” said Wright.
For the longer races it is very important to build endurance and it is important to push yourself.
“The off days are the most important, on the easy days if you can just get out and get long miles in, it really builds that aerobic capacity,” said senior Noah Case. “Then on workwouts the harder you push yourself, the better you will feel later on.”

To monitor the athletes’ progress and see where they can improve, they keep track of each individual athlete’s bests.  “We keep training records and personal bests for every athlete. The goal for every athlete is to work at trying to beat their own personal records or try to target a place on the school’s all-time ‘top-10’ list,” said Coach Wright. “Although it is nice to see the kids win medals and win meets, it is even better to see everyone get better and better and improve on their individual bests.”  For the state track meet this year Coach Wright has high expectations for those returning.
“Jordan Rowe could place Top 5 in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump. Jadon Salamone is one of the favorites in the 400m Dash,” said Coach Wright.  As a team Wright sees a real chance for the team to make the podium at State in 2025. He also sees a lot of potential in the sprint relays with Charlie Reid, Jordan Rowe, Jackson Jones, DeMarco Smith, D’Monta Bagby, and Connor Bayliss. Also, in boys throwing Slade Nagle just set a new school record for javelin will have a chance to make State in the throws. In the 2-mile Elijah Case has a chance to make State, and there are two hurderlers that are battling for the spot in the state qualifications this year, Will Bourgeade and Isaac Black.
