StuCo is one of our most well known clubs. But the life of a StuCo member isn’t as simple as it seems. Student council faces multiple problems. Junior Daniel Waters feels that the largest problem that StuCo faces is participation.
“One issue we have just overall is trying to get the student body engaged. You’ve been to assemblies and all that, sometimes the students aren’t as active as we’d like them to be, so that’s one thing we’re trying to work on and find ways to engage the student body a lot more,” Waters said.
StuCo can help members improve certain skills. Many of these skills deal with leadership qualities.
“I would say for me specifically I’ve learned a lot better leadership qualities and skills, I had some going into StuCo but this has really helped me to bring those more to fruition and understand a lot more of what it takes to manage people,” Waters said.
There are certain things new members should know going into StuCo.
“We have several committees you can be on. Pick a committee and really try and help with that committee, be devoted, be specialized to one area as much as you can, because that really does help, and also come there ready to help. If you’re there to kind of joke around and have a fun time, that’s great that’s wonderful but it’s only going to get you so far,” Waters said.
