Junior Connor Marvin started off by making the All-Suburban Band, which is a select honors band for 7th and 8th grade students. This made him eligible to compete for the All-State music band.
“I had known about All-State for a while, since in 8th grade I got into the All-District middle school band and so since then it has always been my goal to get into the All-State at the high school level,” said Marvin.
This took a lot of work and practice to be able to achieve this.
“Many students that audition for these honor groups take private lessons. That is the primary source of instructional help for this extra material. We are very proud of Connor and his individual achievements in music,” said SCHS Director of Bands Ryan Blankenship.
Marvin also had his own motivations in winning this award.
“A lot of my inspiration was trying to prove that I am good at what I do and that I am one of the best in the state,” he said.
