Deck the halls with paper and glue, that’s right the annual AIP decorating contest has come sliding through the halls this month. For those who don’t know, every year during December the different departments all decorate their doors with as much holiday cheer as they can muster. Kids and teachers work together to bring as much spirit to the halls as possible.
Other than the contestants, there are obviously judges. One of these judges is our very own Librarian Jane Mulitsch. As the librarian she doesn’t usually participate in the decoration contest so she’s been the judge for every contest so far. However, this year she will be both a judge and a contestant since the library is decorated for the first time. Mulitsch is consistently amazed by the creativity that she sees from the classrooms and how far they take it.
Allison Harmann was one of the big brains behind the spirit month when she and some of the teachers decided to dress up for different themes this November and just never stopped. They came up with spirit events to do for the whole month instead of just one week. This way kids have something to look forward to before finals.
“So myself and Mulitsch kind of started the idea of spirit month where we have a different theme for every day of the month just to kind of get in spirit and everyone excited to be in school and something to look forward to each week right because finals and everyones finishing up classes,” said Harmann.
This year our third place for the yearly decorating contest was the library crew. This was their first time participating and they placed on the podium. Our secondplace winner is the counseling department with their Polar Express. And finally our firstplace winner was the science department.
