With the beginning of the new school year comes new faces, students, teachers, and office staff ready for a new start. One of these new teachers, Carl Smith, is excited to be joining the staff here at SCHS.
“I consider this like a dream job at this point in my career, so, I’m very excited to be here,” Smith said. “I’m from St. Charles, I grew up in the community…. I’m born and raised here, and I love this area. So, I’m excited to give back to the community and get to know the kids more, and the teachers that I’m working with.”
After graduating from Orchard Farm, Smith attended Mizzou to earn a degree in business.
“I worked for Sprint, and what I did for Sprint was I was a sales trainer,” Smith said. “I taught kids how to sell.”
After his job working at Sprint, Smith took on the position of district substitute, where he was called to fill in for absent teachers all over the district.
“My favorite part so far (of teaching) is just getting to know the kids .. that was one thing, when I was a sub last year… it was kinda hard to connect with the kids… I was never in a room more than maybe two days in a row,” Smith said.
On top of connecting with his students, Smith looks forward to connecting more with the school community, and looks forward to the possibility of becoming a coach in the future.
“I’m definitely interested,” he said.
Instead, Smith uses the time after hours to do schoolwork of his own. According to Smith, he’s currently working on a Master’s in business administration, which he hopes to complete in May of next year. But he isn’t always learning or teaching.
“I enjoy my family,” Smith said. “They’re the most important thing in my life.”
During summers, which both he and his wife have off, Smith enjoys camping and vacationing with his family.
