Track Dominance
Since the beginning of the year, the track team has been putting in a lot of work during off season and in season. There’s a lot of talent on the team and they should see a lot more success in future track meets with some distance runners and sprinters most likely going to State.
“I do feel like we’ve improved as a team since track started, yet we still need to be more encouraging and appropriately competitive and not just sheer cockiness,” said senior Joshua Thompson.
“We have definitely improved a lot, we also have more people which helps the others improve,” said senior Ryan Funke.
Personal bests, better training, and better coaching – all of these factors have improved since the previous years. Everyone has their own goal this track season.
“I really want to hit the high 10 second or low 11 second times in my 100m dash. Everything else will almost fall into place for me setting other personal goals,” said Thompson.
“Just better myself altogether,” said sophomore Olivia Gosejohan-Brown.
As far as the girls go, they’ve seen some improvement as well.
There are some future track stars at the school moving up the ranks in the next couple of years. Mateo Chang, Attyson O’Keeffe, and others are among the few that’ll be some of SCHS best runners for the next few years.
A lot of the kids’ favorite part about track is communicating with teammates and connecting with their coaches. They all like running too, but good connections with teammates are the best thing to have. Teammates uplifting others can help on the track in a lot of ways.
Overall, the team has seen a lot of success this year and hopefully we can see more improvement throughout the rest of the season.
