During the winter season, the girls wrestling team was practicing a ton for competitions and especially for districts. Districts happened Feb. 5-6 which were during the weekend. The girls that qualified for state which took place on Thursday, Feb. 17 – Saturday, Feb. 19  at Mizzou Arena were Alyssa King and Livy Schiffer.

Alyssa King took second place for districts. “I took 2nd place, losing to the #2 ranked girl in the finals,” King said.

Even though she took second place, there were some tough opponents that she faced, especially one girl during districts. “The toughest part of qualifying this year was defeating the #4 ranked girl at my weight during my semi-final match,” King said.

There were some troubles beforehand because of the weather, this resulted in the districts moving from a Friday and Saturday competition to a Saturday and Sunday competition.

“The reschedule really did not affect much; it went from a Friday and Saturday tournament to a Saturday and Sunday tournament.  So the format was the same, just moved back one day,” Activities Director Corey Hahn said.

But this didn’t stop Livy Schiffer from qualifying for state and also placing second. She had quite the tough opponents but this didn’t stop her beating them.

“I wrestled a girl who was I think 33-1 for first place, but other than that I was pretty excited qualifying for state,” Livy Said. With Livy placing second and Alyssa placing second this resulted in the school coming in fifth place which is pretty good amongst the other schools they had to go against.

At the  Mizzou Arena the boys and girls wrestling team competed against other people that qualified for state. On the girls side Alyssa King took 4th place overall.
