First Year of Esports at SCHS
Joseph Messina is hosting the esports group this year for the first time which involves people having the chance to get a scholarship for playing video games
Mr. Messina is the esports host.
On Aug. 30, 2021, Joseph Messina sponsored his first ever e-sports group. Messina decided to sponsor the esports group after getting word about it during his training.
“I heard about it at PLTW Java training. Pretty much when I learned how to be a programming teacher a few years ago,” Messina said.
The group is going to be just PC games only, no other systems. The main games they’ll be playing are Apex Legends, Rocket League, Fortnite and possibly a few more in the future.
“Just PC, all the other systems, like Xbox and Playstation would cost way too much money,” Messina said.

E-Sports is limited to only a certain amount of games since they’ll only be using PCs. Messina personally doesn’t have a favorite genre of games except RPGs. Messina is a big fan of gaming himself, he likes a variety of games including Rocket League, Apex, and more.
“RPGs, I like all genres of games,” Messina said.
