First SCHS Female to get an All-Conference Award

by Danny Schneider, Poll Editor

The golf team this year did amazing with numerous team members getting All-Conference Awards. But that isn’t the only important and memorable thing that happened for the team. Senior Olivea Garson is the first female to ever get an All-Conference Award on a male golf team from St. Charles High.

I feel very honored to be the first female at SCHS to receive an All-Conference Award. I missed out on last year’s golf season due to COVID so I’m happy that I got to achieve something this year.

“I feel very honored to be the first female at SCHS to receive an All-Conference Award. I missed out on last year’s golf season due to COVID so I’m happy that I got to achieve something this year,” Garson said.

Since there isn’t a girls golf team, the females of SCHS who want to play golf must play on the boys team. Garson got the opportunity to prove that she was as good as the boys by getting an award like this.

“I really enjoyed being on the golf team at SCHS. It was very exciting to be able to compete on the varsity level and keep up with the male golfers,” she said. “There were definitely some challenging moments, but overall I enjoyed being a part of the team.”

As the first female, Garson wanted to show other girls that they can do it if they tried.

“I would encourage any girl at SCHS to try out golfing. There are so many opportunities that come from the game, especially with being a female,” Garson said.
