Varsity Cross Country after First Capital Meet on Sept. 9 making funny faces

The Cross Country team has done some really great things from getting to State last year to the girls varsity winning at GACs recently.

Sophomore Sally Werth feels that the Cross Country team is like family.

“Personally, my favorite part is the people,” she said. “I think we can all agree that our team is very close to each other, and a lot of my close friends run cross country with me.”

She feels running is a one-of-a-kind experience.

“It’s unlike any feeling I’ve ever felt before. You feel like you’re dying, but after the race and after you catch your breath you feel this absolute sense of euphoria,” Werth said.

State is one of the biggest parts of the season making it very important for the team. Senior Thomas Doss has gone to state twice since he’s been on the team and he even came close to beating the school record.

“I’m always excited at the prospect of going to state and being a part of one of the biggest races in the state and knowing what I did to get there and hopefully what my teammates did to qualify as a team,” Doss said.

Assistant Coach Abby Schultehenrich is very proud of the team and all the success they have achieved.

“They work so hard every single day!” Schultehenrich said. “The ultimate goal is not to go to state every year, but for every single person on the team to improve from the beginning of the season to the end.”

This group of students are more than a team, they are a family. And this family hopes to finish the year off going to state.
