Dancers at SCHS are excited about getting the bid to Nationals, and are doing their best to raise the money to attend Nationals, located in Disney World this year. Many are hopeful that they go, and the chances are looking very bright this year. The two captains, seniors Kenzie Davis and Emma Price both think that the team has improved a lot since last year.
Davis says that the increase of new freshmen and diversity of dancers has contributed to this.
“We also did so good last year at State, and so it just pushed us to want to achieve more this year by going to State and Nationals,” Davis said.
This is another reason that Nationals will be more achievable this year. Davis is a new captain this year alongside Emma Price.
“Coming into the leadership role has definitely more responsibilities for me,” Davis said. She noted how being a Dance captain has also applied to other aspects of her life. She also says that the school seems to love their routines as much as they do. For example, after the Homecoming assembly, many people recognized and even sang along to their “How Low Can You Go” routine at the Homecoming game.
Price feels she has improved as a Dance Captain.
“I think I’m a better leader than I was last year, I think that last year I just wasn’t the best captain. I’m more used to it and I’ve improved,” Price said.
She says the team is also much more put together than last year, and that everyone is closer and friendlier to each other.
Sophomore Lily Black, a member of danceline, also emphasized how the team has grown, by quantity and by quality.
“..Everybody’s connecting and I feel like it’s a strong team and nobody will quit,” Black said.
She said that last year too many people quit and that it wasn’t as put together.
“Now we have a big strong team and everyone’s committed and everyone really wants to do good things within the team,” Black said.
