The SCHS Cross Country team has reached recent success in the 2025-2026 season, breaking new records and pushing everyone around them to be the best they can.
As the Cross Country team continues to reach new accomplishments, it leaves people wondering what their limits are.
“After graduating 12 seniors last year from XC, I think everyone thought this would be a down year for the Pirate cross-country squad,” Varsity Head Coach Paul Wright said.

This season has had a satisfying beginning. Wright describes many meets that were successful for the growing team this year, with the school placing in over five meets.
Recently senior Elijah Case broke a school record with a 15:39 for his 3.1 mile run. Case placed first in many races this year, helping lead the team to success.
Case believes that XC is a team sport, he explains how since sophomore year it has improved his teamwork skills.
“The cross country team has made me a better person who is more aware of people around me and the team I am on,” Case said.
Not just the marks and runners are outstanding on this team, also the flow and cohesiveness is a noticeable factor.

“We have good communication and we push each other to do their best,” sophomore Lily Black said.
Black mentioned how the team’s chemistry is very strong and how the team gets along well. Many of the XC members attend dinners that further bond the team into one. She explained that the good team chemistry makes them run better and they work well together.
