After custodians Tom Wright and Mike Matthews finished their last year at St. Charles High back in May, we are now welcoming new custodians to our school.
Zach Pitts is a familiar face to most as he graduated from St. Charles High back in 2009 and has been a part of the school district for about 15 years. He has past experience as a custodian as he worked at Hardin Middle School before coming here. Working at his old high school has been “Pretty fun, pretty fun. A lot of old memories. It’s nice working with teachers that you had as teachers so it’s weird, dynamic, you have to get used to.”
Outside of school, Pitts coaches high school sports including St. Charles High football and St. Charles West wrestling, both going on two years now. He says he often gets called a traitor by both schools, but in a good fun way because he enjoys coaching both. Along with high school sports, he has also been coaching little leagues going on over a decade and coaching any other sports that his two kids play.
Staying motivated at work is no issue for Pitts as there is always something to do, even just small improvements around the school to keep busy.
Demont Macklin is the other new daytime custodian this year along with Pitts. Mac, as everyone calls him, has no prior experience working in a school or as a custodian, but he loves this environment.
“I just like being around kids, but getting busy,” he said.
Mac graduated from University City High School in St. Louis. When he has free time outside of school, he has other interests.
“I pastor on the weekends and then I do kitchen and bathroom remodeling,” he said.
