The schools within the St. Charles School District staff come together and vote on one, outstanding staff member. This year, St. Charles High custodian, Tom Wright, was the winner.
“Tom is one of the, if not the most, hardest working individuals at SCHS. He is always ready and willing to help in any situation. I can’t even express how much I appreciate Tom. We are going to miss him next year, but are happy for him,” said Head Principal Ted Happel.
Many of the staff and even some students can recognize how long Tom works and how he does more than what he is expected to in this school. In general, there is a mass janitorial shortage, with Tom and our other main custodian, Mike Matthews, retiring as well.
“At night we have very little custodial help and he fills in, goes above and beyond what he is supposed to,” said science teacher James Scott. “Without him this building might be falling apart, we’re going to have to hire three people to replace him.”
Tom has enjoyed his time in the St. Charles School district but is looking forward to his retirement after 35 years here, 43 years of work in general.
“St. Charles High has always been a good work environment. Everyone here is like family,” said Wright.
