This year’s soccer season has started, and the SCHS girl’s team is looking better and better. While their season started off a bit rough, the team has made a comeback and is working together better than ever.
“I feel like we’re better this year because… everyone’s clicking and… I feel like this team is just able to come together like a family,” said sophomore Avery Schneider.
One of the big events for the team is their upcoming Iowa tournament. The tournament is in Bettendorf and is a college showcase. There will be many college coaches there and it is a great opportunity for the players. The team plays two games and gets to spend a lot of time team bonding. Despite the hardships of the tournament, the players feel that it is a good way for the team to come together and get to know each other better.
“It’s an opportunity to give them exposure and it’s an opportunity for us to team bond… you go up there to compete, but you also go up there to blend with each other, to meld together, and become a stronger team,” said the team’s coach, Rodney Orrick.
One of the team’s big goals for this year is to win districts and then play Orchard Farm in the state finals. Varsity Captain Quinn Orrick believes the team has been getting progressively better and that the team’s chemistry is one of their strongest traits. She has had a lot of fun this season getting to know the freshman and building new friendships.
“The chemistry is there… the competitiveness and ambition are there and those are a lot of the ingredients you need to be successful,” said Coach Orrick.
