On Wednesday, February 26th, St. Charles High and Jackson High played against each other in a chess match over the Internet. This was a match in the consolation bracket. This was one of the chess team’s final matches this year.
Some SCHS players won, but some lost. One player who won was sophomore Connor Johns.
“I did good, and we won one of our matches in like two minutes,” Johns said. “I won mine in around 10.”
The Pirates played in the consolation bracket due to some errors in a previous match.
“It was a consolation bracket because we miss clicked against them before, so we had to run it back,” Johns said.
Johns detailed his strategy to win against his opponent.
“I was thinking about what he would do, and I was countering that, I was trying to think ahead,” Johns said.
Despite the Pirates best efforts, they ultimately lost against Jackson.
“This season I did not too bad, but not too good, about even track record,” said Johns. “I’ll probably do chess club again next year.”
