The Knitting and Crochet club at SCHS has not been the largest club this year, but it is still going strong. The club sponsor and founder, Kayla Gilmore, and a few others still keep the club environment fun and welcoming for new and/or returning members to join. The club is still fairly new compared to others in the building, with only a few years under their belt.
“The club has been around for at least three years, but I can’t remember what year I first started it,” Gilmore said.
Gilmore, herself, has been knitting for a long time, and is very experienced. This makes her not only the perfect match to be a club sponsor, but also an amazing person to help teach others.
“I got interested because I heard a few of my friends trying it, and my mom knew how to knit. She taught my sister and I how to knit, and my sister went on to learn how to crochet,” Gilmore said.
Because of her love and dedication to the hobby, she continued to knit and crochet through her teenage and adult years while she began teaching. This is what eventually led to the club here at SCHS.
“I started a club here at SCHS to start a community of crafty people who either know how and just want a place to work on a project or try something new, or for people who want to learn but don’t know how,” said Gilmore.
