This year, juniors Rosaisela Cordero-Sanchez and Luis Alcantara introduced a new culture club with the help of Spanish teacher Laura Lopez-Reese. The club meets every other Tuesday after school in room C3.
“Señora Lopez-Reese is a passionate Spanish teacher who appreciates the culture, so that’s why we asked her to sponsor,” said Alcantara.
Together the three put together activities and presentations that educate on Hispanic culture.
“I came up with the idea of Hispanic Heritage club because I felt there wasn’t much Hispanic representation throughout the school…” said Cordero-Sanchez.
The club’s goal is to show and teach about the beauties of Hispanic culture. With the school’s growing Hispanic population, Cordero-Sanchez and Alcantara wanted them to be represented and recognized.
“The message I want to send is how the Hispanic community and the culture is really big, and there are many beautiful aspects to it so I want others to be able to experience it and know about it,” explained Cordero-Sanchez.
