No More Winter Formal?

Winter Formal is now Spring Fling.

The once winter formal dance is now spring fling, which means that it’s no longer a Valentine’s dance, but it will now be closer to Prom. The dance has been moved to March 1, which was the closest date from the original that the school was able to secure. The main reason why the dance was moved was because St. Charles West was having their dance on the same date as ours. But things have changed.

The theme of the dance is going to be enchanted gardens. They are going to have a lot of plants and florals.

Senior Josephine Jackson is one of many students who is upset about the date change. Her main concern is how close it is to Prom. For many students that would like to participate in all the dances, money is the biggest question. The price of the standard Prom dress is $200- $700, so to also buy a $40-$100 dress at such a close time for many is impractical. Another problem is that Orchard Farm is holding their winter formal dance the same day.   “I was very upset because now one of my friends from Orchard Farm can not go,” said Jackson.

Junior Charlotte Kulma is excited about the new dance. Kulma is so excited for it to be warm out for the dance and that she and her friends would get to take pictures outside instead of in the dim casino. Kulma loves the movie Mean Girls, and for the dance in the movie it was spring fling which Kulma says, “rolls off the tongue better.” When she heard the news about the dance being moved she was so excited and can not wait to see what StuCo put together for the new theme. The possibility of them moving Prom is also something Kulma would be here for.

“I really hope they move Prom because the dances are too close together and if they move it to May then I would probably be tanner,” said Kulma.
