In the summer of 2026 SCHS will be going to Japan. Senora Lopez Recess and a growing group of 14 students will be attending this amazing trip.
Senora is more than excited to travel to Japan, not only because she has never been there before but for the students going. She can not wait for them to get to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. She wants them to really get to experience Japan by getting to hear the language and seeing the culture all around them.
There is a lot of time and planning that goes into doing a trip like this. Lopez-Recess explained that the chaperone on the trip gets a discount but it’s not just for going on the trip. There is so much hard work that goes on behind the scenes.
“You have to recruit kids, meaning you have to have meetings and introduce all the information to the parents and to the kids, talk about the itinerary of what we’re going to be doing, what the goal of the trip is and send emails. Once the group of kids that are going is established, then a year before the trip we have to schedule monthly meetings and at every meeting we talk about different things that are going to happen during the trip,” said Lopez-Recess
One of the students that is going is Isabella Chica-Domingaz. She is so excited for the trip. She can not wait to go to the other side of the world. Chica- Domingaz is so eager to try all the authentic Japanese food and get to have a bunch of memories and experiences. She also pointed out how she is very thankful for the meeting’s Lopez-Recess has held and will continue to hold.
“We have only had one so far but I think that that meeting was really helpful and detailed about the cost and what we are going to be doing,” said Chica- Domingaz.
Another of the students going on this amazing trip is Alex Kramer. He is very excited to try all the new foods on this trip. He has never traveled outside of the country before, so he can not wait to travel abroad.
“To get an experience outside of my own culture, just to see what it is like outside of the country,” said Kramer.
