Early on Nov. 6, former president Donald J. Trump won the presidential election, anticipated to be extremely close but didn’t seem to go that way. An astounding win from Trump by 86 electoral votes, despite his racist, sexist, and homophobic rhetoric within the last few months.
On Oct. 27, Trump hosted a rally at Madison Square Garden where several speakers made extremely offensive comments to minority groups of America such as Latinos, Blacks, Palestinians, and Jews.
Hinchcliffe’s rhetoric wasn’t even the worst of it. Many other speakers spewed lies about Vice President Kamala Harris, such as “she slept her way to the top” or that she’s “lazy” and “unintelligent”. This type of rhetoric fuels hate and division within our country. It’s very clear that this rhetoric wasn’t a deal breaker to over 71 million people specifically because Trump himself didn’t make these comments about these groups.
Trump’s rhetoric wasn’t the only thing that wasn’t a deal breaker, his policies/plans aren’t either, they are actually a pro in many of his voters’ eyes. One of his plans that is most concerning is his promise to carry out the largest mass deportation in American history. Kamala has stated that she believes Trump is a fascist, and I agree with her. His plan could be compared to Hitler’s “final solution” which involved systematically deporting Jews from Germany in order to “root out the vermin” according to Hitler. Trump has also used the word “vermin” to describe human beings living in America. This word again most notably being used in Nazi Germany.
Hopefully Trump’s policies won’t live up to be as bad and devastating as his rhetoric is.
If Trump keeps his word with his deportation plan, millions of good-hearted people who just happen to not be legal citizens yet, lives would be devastated.
That’s just one of his many policies that he has promised that would negatively impact our lives here in America. Trump promises to put tariffs on most imported goods. Top economists say this could cost the average American family an extra $4000 a year. This would just worsen the inflation and further push the middle class into a financial crisis.
One of Trump’s most concerning plans to women of America is a national abortion ban. There has been much discussion and tension around this topic and while Trump takes credit for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, he has said he would veto a national abortion ban if the bill came to his desk. Many people are skeptical because his Vice Presidential pick JD Vance said he does support a national abortion ban. Hopefully Trump keeps to his word and does not sign a national abortion ban, because the after effect would be disastrous.
Trump’s most concerning decision was choosing Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to oversee the Department of Health. RFK has been known to spread dangerous misinformation over vaccines and about many other things. This could negatively impact the medical and pharmaceutical industry that many Americans rely on.
In conclusion, all of Trump’s policy plans would be disastrous, America could have a decline in freedoms, the economy, and human dignity. Division will undoubtedly be on the rise under Trump’s second term. I hope to see Kamala run again in 2028 to continue the fight for the real American dream.
