Every year, SCHS’s Renaissance Steering Committee hosts a trunk or treat for the elementary schools. Renaissance club members and other volunteers decorate their cars and hand out candy to the kids. Renaissance has been doing this for a while now, and is happy to see that they are gaining more attendance from the kids. Despite this, there is still room for improvement. Renaissance members hope to have more cars for the kids to visit for future trunk or treats
“I feel like we… need to spread the word out more,” said junior Maddie Harmon.
Harmon is a junior and is a part of the fundraising committee in Renaissance. She feels that even though they need to advertise better, this year was one of their best yet. Harmon decorated her car with a Harry Potter theme and had a fun time handing out candy to the kids.
Malia Jones is a sophomore and is the Fundraising Officer for Renaissance. She enjoys playing games with the kids and even made a Cookie Monster themed game for her car. Her favorite costumes were the Descendants costumes because she enjoyed the Descendants movies when she was younger. Jones thinks that this event is very beneficial for the community.
“I think it gives parents and kids something fun to do and it allows students to help their community,” said Jones.
While this is Melissa Kohr’s first year co-sponsoring the club, she believes that this year was better than previous years. She was pleased with the higher attendance rates from the kids and hopes that the attendance continues to grow. Kohr enjoyed seeing all the different costumes that kids came up with, but her favorite was Wonder Woman. She believes that this event brings students closer together and lifts up the school’s community.
“I think it gives a positive face to our students here at St. Charles High,” said Kohr.
