As the boys soccer season is coming to an end, there has been a competition for the starting goalie position between Lucas Skeen and Micah Bryson.
Lucas Skeen is a sophomore and has been the boys varsity soccer team’s starting goalie since his freshman year. Skeen has been playing goalie for 12 years. He has put in a lot of work in the offseason to keep this position. He plays club soccer and has training multiple times throughout the week. At the beginning of games he gets a little “nervous,” but as the game goes on he focuses in and it goes away. He has been playing well throughout the season and is hoping to continue into districts.
“The season has gone alright, started off strong and then fell apart but just hoping to get it all together for districts,” said Skeen.
Micah Bryson is a junior and he is the backup goalie to Skeen. He has been playing goalie for five to six years. In the off season he plays club soccer, so just training and playing games and staying fit. Bryson loves playing goalie, when he gets put in the games he feels confident and ready to play.
“It’s been decent, a little bumpy at the beginning, but we got steady now we’re going,” said Bryson.
Issac Black is a junior and is a varsity starter on defense. Black has played with both goalies and thinks that they are both very consistent players, but have different good qualities. He says that “Lucas is an overall skilled goalie” but thinks that “Micah is very good at talking in the back and talking to all of our defense and the whole team.” In practice it is always a competition between the two to see who plays. There is pressure on both of them to perform every week.
‘I like Micah’s talk back there, but I like Lucas, he kinda supports me better than Micah,” said Black.
