A big shift in routine has just hit our school’s Homecoming. While the dance is typically held in the gym it was shuffled over to the cafeteria this year. This decision had several factors and voices involved in it coming to life.
Skye Reichert, one of the StuCo sponsors, was asked about why these changes came to be. She said that they wanted a close space for the students so that they would feel less overwhelmed by the size of the dance area.
“We wanted more of an intimate space where it wouldn’t feel so big because when we have dances in the gym we can only make it so small,” Reichert said. “It just seems like there’s way too much room to do things and decorating takes forever.”
Another voice in this matter, StuCo sponsor Taylor Beye, has similar feelings to Reichert on the situation. She believes that this makes it feel like more of a big event than a small dance.
“I feel like having a designated dance floor separated from everything else is also really nice,” said Beye.
StuCo member Danika Nalepa has her own thoughts and reasons for the location change, one of which being food. Since the gym doesn’t allow snacks, students always had to step out into the hallway, a tight and crowded area of the dance, in order to refuel. However with the new location change, students have a much larger area to eat without running into their fellow dancers.
“If we want to have snacks on Homecoming, then Homecoming has to be in the Commons and the cafeteria,” Nalepa said.
