Lauren Miller and Jordyn Keene are seniors on the St. Charles High varsity volleyball team. Miller started playing her sophomore year. Keene started in fourth grade, while joining the high school team during freshman year. They’ve enjoyed the time together.
“I love coming to practice everyday, and hanging out with the girls, my friends,” Miller said.
Keene enjoys the game days during volleyball season.
“My favorite part is seeing the girls everyday, and seeing Lauren everyday at practice and at games,” Keene said.
Head Coach Sadie Kosciuk however did not meet Miller in the volleyball setting, rather when Miller was playing basketball in freshman year.
“I was helping out with the basketball team when I first started working here, and Miller had tried out for basketball, and throughout the season, she realized that it wasn’t really the sport she wanted to do, but she and I had made a connection there, and the next year she came up for volleyball,” Kosciuk said.
Keene had been playing volleyball since elementary, several years prior to high school, and joined the High School team the same year Kosciuk began coaching it.
“I met her freshman year, so Jordan has been here since I’ve been coaching here,” Kosciuk said.
Miller was said to be a very prominent person on the volleyball team, possessing many skills during her time in the sport.
“Throughout the season she developed a lot of great skills, and she started pushing herself … So from sophomore year to senior year, she has progressed very well, and has done very well and has been a big addition to our program, because of where she started at from sophomore year to where she is now senior year, she is one of the most influential and dominant players on the court, as a hitter,” Kosciuk said.
Keene was said to be a natural leader and assistant to coach Kosciuk, helpful during many varied moments and times.
“She’s always been a leader for me, and I’ve always appreciated her insight, and her stepping up in times where I need a player to say something or do something for the program. And she’s always been a great person all around,” Kosciuk said.
However with them being seniors, they won’t be around much longer for volleyball. They’ve made their impact on volleyball and each other, and have proven themselves at St. Charles High School, and to Coach Kosciuk.
“I love both of them dearly, and I’m going to be very sad when they leave this year,” Kosciuk said.
