During a French 3 class field trip to Purina Farms on Sept. 19, the students needed to take photos for a project explaining what they did there.
“The kids went to a farm to take pictures of farm animals,” French Teacher Anna Schrader said, “then when they came back they had to write a book with the pictures that they took explaining what they did.”
Schrader believes getting out of the classroom improves students’ learning by doing hands-on activities.
“It’s fun, that’s always helpful because if your materials boring the kids, they don’t learn it as well or as quickly, students may fall asleep and it was helpful because it helped them use the language in a real life situation so hopefully they learned that you can use French even though you’re not in France,” Schrader said.
As a result of Schrader’s teaching, Myra Soles felt she learned more.
“I mean the project was really centered over things you can do with farm animals and actually going to the farm and doing things with farm animals helped with that a lot,” Soles said.
