In the fall the eSports team moved rooms from A105 to G8. They moved from the business department in the middle of A-building to the basement next to High’s weight room. This change was made to allow for more equipment and team-building space. The department is expanding and gaining popularity, so some of the team sees the room as a new opportunity.
“I feel like the space has more room for us to do team-building activities, and with some work, it will be a much more inviting eSports environment compared to the old room,” senior Elliot Prichard said.
The eSports team is a newer addition into High athletics, this being their fourth year as a team. There is a struggle to get a good amount of students to make teams for the variety of video games offered.
“Someone joined this year and then mysteriously disappeared just as quickly,” Prichard said.
According to members many people have heard about the eSports team, but are too nervous to join. Some people say it is because of the games offered (Overwatch, Super Smash Bros, League of Legends, Apex), but others think it is because they are scared of being judged.
“Don’t be afraid to join, people won’t judge you if you decide to join or not. Not to mention we are all just playing a game that we enjoy playing, so don’t get discouraged,” senior Talan Mathus said.
There are many plans in place for using the new room and what they would like to add to it to help create the environment that many of the players are hoping for.
“There is a pillar that I’d like to paint white and then every year and let the eSports team sign one of the bricks, plenty of bricks to it as well for years to come,” Head Coach Alex Messina said. “I’d also like to put a line in the wall and above it we would put any positive behaviors, and below it behaviors we would like to fix.”
