Ultrasound Tour
Lorde came to St. Louis as a part of her Ultrasound Tour on Oct. 9. The show was at the Chaifetz Arena and was centered around her new album “Virgin.” The show contained all 11 songs from her newest album and many other of her hit songs. It was also the first time she had come to St. Louis in many years.
Lorde’s performance was, for the most part, a one-woman show. For a lot of the show, she was the main one on stage. Even when she did have other dancers up there, there were only 2-4 of them. The people who were working behind the scenes did an incredible job as well. There were all sorts of cool factors that added to the performance. She had multiple videographers around the stage recording different view points of the concert and projecting it to a screen. There were also all sorts of different effects happening, from crazy light shows to Lorde running on a treadmill for one of her songs.
This was my favorite concert I have ever attended. The show was just a really fun place to be. Lorde made it feel like a space for everyone to just not care and have fun with her care-free vibe on the stage. She made it obvious that she was dancing however she saw fit and did what she thought was fun. The energy was consistent throughout the entire show and there was never a moment where the whole crowd sat down.
The show also felt very intimate, despite the size of the venue. She put in an effort to make everyone included no matter where their seat was. All of the songs that she performed had a powerful meaning to them and there was something that applied to everyone.
Wishbone Pajama Show
Conan Gray came to the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre on Sept. 28 for the Wishbone Pajama Show tour. The tour was based off his newest and fourth album “Wishbone,” but also featured his most popular songs from his other albums. This show was his first time coming to St. Louis since 2019 and was the second time I have seen him.
The show opened with the song “My World” and Conan came onto the stage while riding a bike. Throughout the show, he played almost all of his new album and spread out some of his other songs throughout the show. To tie into the sailor and pajama theme, he had different sets that included things like a boat and a bed and had sailor and pajama themed outfits.
This show is one of my favorites that I have been to this year. Both times I have seen Conan, he has been an incredible performer and has a very wide voice range. He also had a lot of fun crowd interactions. One of these was during a set part of the show where he has someone break a wishbone with him. If the other person got the bigger part of the bone, they got to choose the next song. If Conan got it, he got to choose. I think this is a fun way to the concept of a surprise song and got everyone excited to see what would happen. There have even been shows where the bone didn’t break right which made everyone shocked, since a wishbone is never supposed to break evenly. Overall, Conan put on a very good show. There was never a dull moment, despite the sad lyrics that appear in most of his songs.
